Anne-girl part 2

Last May I started my Anne of Green Gables inspired socks.  I had gotten to where I wanted the heel and stalled.  I didn't want to mess up the heel especially with such wonderful yarn.  After I finished the baby stuff last week I picked them back up and just steamed ahead, frogging be damned.  Luckily I didn't really have to frog anything!  I did rip a bit out just because I didn't like the sl1, k1 heel pattern so much and just went to a regular knit heel.  Anyway, after a bit of math, I turned the heel and did the gusset and now I'm more than halfway through the foot! :)  I'm on spring break now and so hope to have sock one done this week.  Anyhoo, pictures to share:

More finished baby items

Josh's cousin's baby shower is Saturday.  I finished the third thing I was making today.  I didn't think I'd get two things finished, let alone three!  I was busy all weekend and my hands hurt a bit now, but that just means I'm doing it right. ;)  So here are the gifts: 

 

 

From the top, the Garter-Stitch Baby Kimono,  the inside to show how it ties, a close up of the buttons, the Twinkle Twinkle Bonnet, a close up of the smocking, and Saartjes Booties.  I really like how the set turned out.  They're girly but not super girly and the blue buttons really add something I think. :)  I hope the mom-to-be likes them. :)

I work at our school's archives and we come across some interesting items as we're processing the collections.

Baby stuff updates

So my sister-in-law had her baby Monday.  Josh and I made a very quick trip to Buffalo to be there.  They didn't know what they were having so it was a surprise, hence the fairly neutral gift I made.  They had a girl and named her Charlotte Marie.  She's adorable of course. :)

I've started the gift for the baby shower March 3rd.  I'm making the Garter Stitch Baby Kimono right now.  I'm planning on making some booties too and maybe a hat, but I'm not super speedy, so we'll see...  Here's the progress so far:

 

I'm onto the sleeves now (as you can see) and am having serious ladder issues.  More than I've had with dpns in a long time.  I'm hoping they'll resolve once I can work with them a bit.  Anyhow, I love how it's turning out so far.  I bought some really pretty light denim blue buttons to pull out the blue in the yarn, and got the same buttons in the smaller size for the booties.  I really like this sweater and the yarn is gorgeous.

Baby stuff

My brother- and sister-in-law are having their third child in two weeks.  Josh's cousin is pregnant and the shower's at the beginning of May.  So far these are what I have:

Those are actually the same color, one just has the flash on and the other doesn't.  I don't know yet what else I'm making, but I have a few ideas.  They will come once they're done. :)

Motivation

So for our wedding gifts to each other Josh and I each bought ourselves something we'd been wanting.  I knew I wanted some nicer yarn than most of what I use (whatever JoAnn's sells...) but wanted a decent amount so nothing too expensive.  I got this:

29 skeins of KnitPicks yarns. :)  Bulky all the way down to fingering.  I have things planned for 3-4 of the colors already and bought them with their projects in mind.  The bulky on the left will be the Twenty-Ten Cardigan.  The green and/or brown in the middle will be the Folded pullover.  And the light blue barely visible in the middle will be Kalajoki socks.  I'm not sure about the rest, but the colors were too much to resist.  And one of the colorways was on sale because it was being discontinued, so how could I resist? ;)

I got this for Christmas from my aunt:

It's actually a bit darker than the photo shows.  I think it's going to be the Tamarind Cowl.

Anyhow, all of this is to say that I'm extremely motivated to finish things I have started already because I don't want to start more new things!  I did make a little bag out of some leftover sock yarn (and still didn't finish it, which was the goal)... But otherwise, nothing new.  So I'm working again on my crocheted blanket I started ages ago, I'm working again on the sweater for Josh that I started at least a year ago, and I have a Christmas present to finish for my in-laws (need to get more embroidery thread before I can finish though) and a birthday present for my grandmother.  I also have a baby sweater that I started for a friend but will finish for my new little niece or nephew next month.  I'm feeling so productive right now!  Granted, it should be school-productive, not crafty-productive, but what can you do? ;) :)

Day trip

We took a little day trip up north today.  Josh is applying for new jobs so we went to turn in a resume and just made a day of it.

I've never driven the Mackinac Bridge before (I've always just been a passenger).  It's a little nerve-wracking, but I made it.  The clouds over the bridge were amazing so I had Josh take pictures.  He had a lot of fun with them:

We came home and the sky was looking like this outside our apartment.  :)  We don't have snow (maybe this weekend I hear), but we have this sky.  You really can't beat that. :)
